Congress on establishing the Vietnam Business Lawyer Club (VBLC)

In Implementing the “Strategy on development of law practice with vision to 2020” and the project on “Developing a team of lawyers for international economic integration from 2010 to 2020”, in the morning of 11th December 2015, the Vietnam Bar Federation held a congress in Hanoi establishing the Vietnam Business Lawyer Club with the participant of more than 60 lawyers.

This is a voluntary and self-management organisation of lawyers and law practice organisations in Vietnam, which is attached to the VBF with the aim to assemble and cohere law practice organisations and independent practicing lawyers and lawyers working in enterprises in the fields of investment, business and trade with foreign elements; to promote the exchanges and cooperation knowledge and experiences among lawyers, law practice organisations, legal experts to businesses, agencies and organizations in the country and abroad relating to law of international economic integration; to implement activities contributing to the development of human resources for Lawyers for integration; and to provide the basis for the development of law practice in Vietnam on par with other countries in the region and in the world.

Our Managing partner, Mr. Nguyen Manh Dzung is a member of the Campaign Committee for Establishment of the Congress.

Workshop on Development of the framework curriculum for the Vietnam lawyers’ school

In 03 and 04 DecemIMG_0003ber 2015, the Vietnam Bar Federation (VBF) organized a workshop on Development of the framework curriculum for the Vietnam lawyers’ school with the participant of more than forty lawyers and experts in development of curriculum and teaching methods in Vietnam. This is an important goal which has been adopted by Prime Minister in the “Strategy for development of law practice until 2020”.

Our Managing Partner, Mr. Nguyen Manh Dzung was invited by the VBF to participate in the workshop. Mr. Dzung has been invited to give lectures by Judicial Academy of Hanoi and Saigon, The Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV), Hanoi law university…

Workshop on Prevention and Settlement of International Investment Dispute

On the 09th and 10th of October 2015, a workshop on Prevention and Settlement of International Investment Dispute was held by the Vietnam Ministry of Justice and the USAID in Thanh Hoa, Vietnam.

The workshop was chaired by the Vice Minister, His Excellency, Mr. Nguyen Khanh Ngoc, the participations of Mr. Nguyen Duc Kien – Deputy Director of the Department for International Law, Mr. David Anderson – Project Director USAID / GIG, Professor David A.Gantz – Expert of the projects and representatives from the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Finance, the State Bank of Vietnam, International arbitration centers in Vietnam, Lawfirms, departments for judiciary and civil judgment execution and the local authority for Planning and Investments.

At the Workshop, our comments on the draft report of the Study on International Investment Dispute Settlement by Vietnamese Court and Arbitration was presented by Lawyer Nguyen Manh Dzung the firm’s Managing Partner which gained much attention of the participants. Conference on summarizing 04 years of implementation of the Law on Commercial Arbitration held by the Vietnam Ministry of Justice

9.9 So ket Luat trong tai 7On 09 September 2015 a conference on summarizing 04 years of implementation of the Law on Commercial Arbitration held by the Vietnam Ministry of Justice, Chaired by Deputy Minister Nguyen Khanh Ngoc.

In the conference, many important issues are raised such as: Role of the courts to arbitration under the Law on commercial arbitration; Roles of the Hanoi People’s Court in settling claims against arbitral awards; Advantages and difficulties of application of the Law on Commercial Arbitration… With the aim to continue to promote the results achieved, pointing out the limitations, difficulties and problems, and find out causes. This is also a conference to debate and discus on solutions to remove difficulties and inadequacies, and propose measures to improve the effectiveness of arbitration in order to meet the practical requirements of socio – economic development, judicial reforms and international integration.

In this occasion, our Managing partner, Mr. Nguyen Manh Dzung makes speech on “Use of commercial arbitration in Vietnam. Some solutions to enhance the attractiveness of arbitration” which summarizes on issues such as the use of commercial arbitration in Vietnam; positive impacts of commercial arbitration; training and research; facilities, code of ethics and effectiveness… with the hope to contribute to the overall success of the conference.

2015 Taipei International Conference on Arbitration and Mediation – September 6 & 7, 2015

On September 6 & 7, 2015 Mr. Nguyen Manh Dzung, our managing partner will attend the 2015 Taipei International Conference on Arbitration and Mediation. This is an event to explore issues related to Government’s Role in Promoting or Attracting Commercial Arbitration, Procedural and Substantive Law Issues in International commercial Arbitration, Procedural and Substantive Issues in Investment Arbitration, and Recent Development of International Mediation.

Workshop on the draft report “Research and proposing mechanisms, models of civil disputes resolution by the simplified procedure in Vietnam”

7116989In the framework of project “Strengthening Access to Justice and Protection of Rights in Viet Nam” (supported by UNDP). On June 29 – 30th, 2015, a Workshop on the draft report “Research and proposing mechanisms, models of civil disputes resolution by the simplified procedure in Vietnam” held by the Institute for Judicial Sciences of the Vietnam Supreme People’s Court and The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

This is a project aims to assist in the adoption of the SPC to assess the status settlement of disputes in accordance with common procedures in courts; infer the common rules on civil proceedings of Vietnam with foreign laws on civil proceedings with simplified procedure; make specific recommendations and proposals to complete the law of civil proceedings and mechanisms and patterns on simplified procedure in civil dispute resolution at Vietnamese Courts, thereby to better protect legitimate rights and interests of organisations and individuals in Vietnam.

Queen Mary University of London – The Evolution and Future of International Arbitration: The Next 30 Years

A Conference on The Evolution and Future of International Arbitration: The Next 30 Years will be organised by the Alumni & Friends of the School of International Arbitration (AFSIA) from 19 to 21 April 2015, to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the School of International Arbitration – Centre for Commercial Law Studies, Queen Mary University of London.

In this occasion, our Managing partner, Mr. Nguyen Manh Dzung is honored to be invited as the  University’s former Arbitration LLM student.

The Centre for Commercial Law Studies of Queen Mary University of London were the first place in the world to teach a dedicated arbitration programme and SIA has been expanding both in terms of curriculum and staff over the years. The 30th anniversary conference is a wonderful opportunity to reconnect, recall so many good moments and to reflect and debate. There will also be ample opportunities for professional and social networking.
